MATCHA VS COFFEE

Matcha or Coffee? That’s the big question. Well, we can tell you our answer is Matcha every time, but let's tell you why!

ENERGY -

Compared to coffee, matcha provides a longer-lasting slow-release energy lasting 4-6 hours. Although coffee might give you an energy hit, it’s always followed by a crash. So you’ll need to keep drinking more, and more, and more… It's a vicious cycle.

When it comes to comparing the caffeine content between the two; Matcha on average has a slightly lower caffeine content than coffee. A regular Flat Green (2.5g serving) of matcha has between 50-70 mg of caffeine and your usual Flat White coffee is 100-120mg.

Crucially you’re still going to get the energy buzz you need from matcha without the extra crashes, jitters and extra baggage of coffee.

FEELING -

Matcha not only tastes good but feels good. The l-theanine present in matcha helps decrease cortisol levels, reducing stress and anxiety. It also supports focus and concentration. Jitters, crashes and anxiety accompany coffee. It also increases cortisol, especially if it's the first thing you drink in the morning, leaving you more stressed than you need to be.

Let's talk quickly about L’theanine…

L-theanine has been studied for its ability to increase activity in the alpha frequency brand, meaning it directly impacts the brain and promotes a state of calm without drowsiness. L-theanine increases GABA, our calming neurotransmitter, and can support concentration and mental clarity. Catechins, a type of flavonoid found in matcha, also support how we effectively break down neurotransmitters and hormones via the enzyme monoamine oxidase. Matcha may be a useful addition to your day (or coffee substitute!) if you suffer from anxiety, bouts of low mood and poor concentration.

We like to think of it as keeping you;

Super focused.

Super calm.

Super on it.

Super Human.

NUTRIENTS -

Matcha is full of good stuff! It’s packed with antioxidants, l-theanine, fibre, chlorophyll and vitamins which provide various benefits such as helping balance blood sugar levels, decreasing stress and anxiety, improving cognitive function and much more.

There's not much to shout out about coffee. It’s said it may help with diabetes, heart and liver. But it comes with its downsides too…

TASTE -

We’ve sourced a super tasty Ceremonial Grade Matcha from Japan which is a fairly mellow matcha, with smooth nutty flavours. Give yourself a chance to get to know matcha and you’ll soon realise the quality you’re sipping is super important. We’re pretty fussy when it comes to flavour so we think you’ll love ours, whether you’re a matcha aficionado or newbie! While coffee has a bold, rich and bitter taste that you might like the taste of no one wants to smell it on you all day. And dentists love matcha… no yellow teeth around here when it comes to matcha…

If you don’t trust us, then listen to the testers;

“The flavour when we tasted the powder was remarkable. It was exceptionally smooth with a clean finish and the overall nutty and creamy taste was incredibly moreish!” Double Gold Great Taste Award 2023

ACIDITY -

Coffee has a pH of around 4-5, while matcha has a pH of 9. Meaning coffee is acidic and matcha is alkaline. Coffee might not be great if you experience gut issues, the acidity also doesn’t help with those teeth stains either. Matcha is a cleaner alternative as it supports oral and gut health with its added fibre benefits and alkaline balancing qualities
